Got rear-ended last month. Completely the other driver's fault (they got a ticket). I had some pretty bad whiplash, missed a week of work, and ended up with about $2,500 in ER and physical therapy bills. Their insurance just called and offered me $5,000 to settle everything right now. It covers my bills and leaves me with a little extra, but my neck still hurts in the mornings. Friends are telling me to get a personal injury attorney, but I'm worried their 33% cut will just eat up whatever extra I'd get anyway. Has anyone been through this? Did hiring a lawyer actually get you more in your pocket, or should I just take the quick payout?
